Choose the sales market first
Sunscreen development starts with the destination market, not only an SPF target. Classification, permitted formula directions, testing and labeling can differ. In the United States, sunscreen products are regulated as drugs. Discuss the applicable route with the responsible market specialist before committing to formula or artwork.
Specify the application experience
Define the format and use occasion: daily face lotion, body sunscreen, stick or reapplication spray. Describe preferred spreadability, finish, fragrance and visible residue. Evaluate samples using a consistent application amount. A pleasant texture is useful feedback, but it does not demonstrate a protection claim.
Separate the brief from verified claims
An intended SPF or broad-spectrum positioning is a development target until supported by the appropriate testing. Ask which formula version will be tested, which laboratory will be used and what documentation will be supplied. Do not select a label claim simply because a reference product carries it.
Review packaging and final artwork
Choose packaging that supports the intended application and protects the formulation. Agree compatibility checks and review instructions, claims and required labeling for the destination market. If the formula or package changes after approval, ask whether further evaluation is needed before production.
Build a realistic launch plan
Allow time for formula revisions, evaluation and market review before announcing a launch. Confirm responsibility for testing, registration or notification where applicable, and final label approval. Ask for a project-specific schedule and quotation; protection targets, format and packaging can materially change the scope.
